Well, the Historic Leyburn Sprints are over for another year and we can look back on a wonderfully successful and enjoyable event.
We had around 225 starters in the Sprints, 67 entries in the Shannons Show ‘n’ Shine and 24 Vintage Caravans – a great show all round! The weather was fantastic – if you didn’t mind the westerlies on Saturday – and we welcomed a bumper crowd.
As we wrap up 2023, we thank the many individuals and organisations that ensured a virtually seamless 27thSprints. Most all, thank you to the volunteers – track officials, stewards, flag marshals, firies, scrutineers, committee members and many more – who make an essential contribution. (A special mention to the children and teachers of Leyburn State School, who every year charm us with their performance of Advance Australia Fair during the opening ceremony.)
The Sprints is a complex operation that takes many people many months to put together and we honour them all. And of course, our gratitude goes to the growing list of government and commercial sponsors who generously back the event. The result of all that support in cash and kind is that the community of the Leyburn district will again receive a financial injection to assist local organisations and projects.
One of the joys of the Historic Leyburn Sprints is its friendly atmosphere. The camaraderie between competitors who in many cases meet just once a year at Leyburn is truly special. The faces of our patrons, especially the kids, tell us they have a great time too.
We‘ll be back on 17-18 August 2024 – subject to official confirmation of the date – and look forward to welcoming you again then.
