While even the most casual petrolhead will be entranced by the magnificent cars at the Historic Leyburn Sprints, there’s much more on offer to entertain all your family. Here’s a quick run-down:
All weekend
- See car displays, trade displays and market stalls in Macintyre St, Warwick St and the Competitors Paddock.
- Buy food and refreshments from the many vendors throughout the precinct.
- Take a helicopter ride for a bird’s eye view of the Sprints. Departs from rear of Competitors’ Paddock.
- Take a walk around the township and see if you can find the 23 plaques marking historical locations of the goldrush.
- Visit the new viewing area and licensed bar on the outside of Turn One.
Friday 16 August
- 10.00am -5.00pm: Competitor registration/vehicle scrutineering. Secretary‘s tent, and scrutineering bay, Warwick St
- 10am-close: Leyburn Museum. RSL Club, Warwick St
- 3.00pm: Judging of campsite competition. Main campgrounds
- 4.30pm-6.00pm: 75th AGP Anniversary welcome BBQ. Meet the drivers. All welcome. Main food tent, Warwick St. This is going to be a special event, and more details will be released on this.
- 7.30pm (from): Live entertainment. Royal Hotel Leyburn and the Leyburn RSL
Saturday 17 August
- 6.00am: Roads closed
- 6.30am: Spectator gates open. Macintyre St.
- 8.00am: Sprints competition starts
- All day: Vintage Vans display. Rear of Royal Hotel
- 10am-close: Leyburn Museum. RSL Club, Warwick St
- ~12.00pm:
- Opening Ceremony, including 1949 grand prix cars display, VIP driver guests, Advance Australia Fair sung by Leyburn State School choir. Start line, Macintyre St
- Raffle winners’ hot laps. Start line, Macintyre St
- ~4.00pm: Vintage Vans trophy presentations. Royal Hotel beer garden
- ~5.00pm: Sprints competition finishes
- From 6.30pm: Charity auction. Royal Hotel Leyburn beer garden
- From 7.30pm.: Live entertainment. Royal Hotel Leyburn and Leyburn RSL
Sunday 18 August
- 6.30am: Spectator gates open. Macintyre St.
- 7.00am:
- Charity Fun Run. Entry $5. Start line, Macintyre St
- Show ‘n’ Shine. St Matthews Catholic Church grounds, enter via Warwick St. Spectators free
- 8.00am: Sprints competition starts
- 10am-close: Leyburn Museum. RSL Club, Warwick St
- All day: Vintage Vans display. Rear of Royal Hotel
- ~12.00pm:
- Vietnam Veterans Day commemoration, start line Macintyre St
- Raffle winners’ hot laps. Start line, Macintyre St
- Ticket Sales close - Historic Leyburn Sprints 75th AGP Anniversary Raffle
- ~1.00pm: Show ‘n’ Shine trophy presentations, St Mathews Catholic Church grounds
- ~2.45pm: Sprints competition finishes
- 3.00pm: Winners drawn for Historic Leyburn Sprints 75th AGP Anniversary Raffle. Winners drawn shortly afterwards in front of Royal Hotel
- ~3.00pm: Historic Leyburn Sprints trophy presentations. Front of Royal Hotel
